On behalf of all children, staff, parents and Governors of St Matthew’s CE (Aided) Primary
School and Nursery Centre, welcome to our school. We consider St Matthew’s to be a
dynamic and academically challenging environment, at the forefront of positive,
appropriate and beneficial change. Our intention is to be innovative, creative and
progressive, sharing a mutual desire to see our school succeed.
As reflected on our letter headings, policy frontages and school sweatshirts we are
“Individuals, Working to Potential, Together”. We judge ourselves and then stand to be
judged by others both separately and collectively. One of our year 2 children expressed
this philosophy far better than I, when she said; “Only my best will do”. Our expectation is
110% only when we are not trying. St Matthew’s is a school with a firmly rooted Christian
ethos, taken from the teachings and practices of the Church of England. Whilst we make
no apology for this, it is important to say that treating one another with respect means
respecting that some people will be of other faiths or of no faith at all. Here at St
Matthew’s, we seek to respect everyone’s cultural and faith background so that we can
continue to be a school where everyone belongs and where everyone is included. So it
is that we welcome applications to our school from all sections of our community.
Our intention is to provide a quality teaching and learning environment, where our model of planning, implementation and evaluation provides children with a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum with appropriate emphasis on literacy and numeracy. This is designed to meet all individual needs to ensure progression, continuity and promotion of high educational standards and absolute safety.
Our School population has increased significantly over the last six years. The reasons for this are three fold. Our school’s reputation now precedes it and therefore an ever increasing number of parents are choosing to send their children to St Matthew’s despite living out of area and quite some distance away. A steady growth in housing developments within the school’s catchment has necessitated a change in our admissions number. We have also welcomed many children from service families, in particular Her Majesty’s Royal Air Force personnel stationed at RAF Cosford. These families without exception have made an immediate contribution towards the stature and continued growth of our School and Nursery Centre.
